Media Release: We condemn this celebration of racist murder

Free Palestine Melbourne is shocked and appalled that a pro-Israel group is holding an event aimed primarily at children that celebrates the killing of Lebanese people.

The event, organised by the Lions of Zion for Sunday 7 December, supports “the bravery, cunning strategy, and relentless execution that defines the Mossad’s legacy” – specifically the use of exploding pager devices to murder Israel’s opponents in September 2024.

The explosions killed at least 12 people and wounded more than 3000 – with many losing body parts, mostly eyes and hands.

The Lions invite supporters to attend “Beeper Operation” in a Caulfield park.

They write: “Join us as we honour and inspire children with one of the Mossad’s most cunning missions – the Beeper Operation, where precision and ingenuity made the enemy pay to blow themselves up.”

Free Palestine Melbourne organiser David Glanz said: “As a parent and a Jew, I find it sickening that Jewish-Australian children are being encouraged to play ‘battle games’ that celebrate acts of murder and state terrorism.

“The Victorian Government has unjustly criticised the Palestine solidarity movement in terms of ‘social cohesion’. Yet here we have a pro-Israel event that celebrates the deaths of Lebanese people.

“What message does that send to Lebanese-Australian people and the broader community, especially children?

“How can such racism go unchallenged by the media and politicians?

“We demand that Premier Jacinta Allan calls on the Lions of Zion to cancel this event.”
