Media Release: Protestors Prepare for Global Day of Action
11 January 2024 – for immediate release
At 12pm on Sunday 14 January, protestors will participate in a Global Day of Action when they gather at the State Library of Victoria before marching to Parliament.
“For one hundred days, Israel has been bombing and starving the Gaza Strip, while its settlers and soldiers have been terrorising and murdering Palestinians in the West Bank. According to the Israeli NGO B’Tselem, Israel is deliberately bombing bakeries and razing cultivated land, while denying the entry of adequate food into Gaza,” said Muayad Ali of Free Palestine Melbourne.
“It is time for this to stop. We are calling on the Australian government to support South Africa’s application to the International Court of Justice for an interim injunction to halt the Palestinian genocide.”
Organisers are confident of a large turnout on Sunday.
“Even last Sunday, when most of Melbourne was on holiday, 5,000 protestors braved a sustained downpour to partake in our thirteenth rally since the start of the genocide. As Israel endeavours to provoke a wider regional war to distract the world from the Gaza genocide, the Australian public continues to stand with Palestine.”
