Free Palestine Melbourne strongly condemns the brutal escalation of settler violence in the occupied West Bank, particularly the attacks on the Palestinian village of Tell near Nablus, as well as the assault on Nablus Hospital. These attacks are part of an ongoing pattern of violence carried out by extremist Israeli settlers under the protection of the Israeli military, leaving Palestinian communities living under constant fear and threat.

Yesterday, four Palestinians were killed in Tell during these attacks. We mourn their loss and extend our deepest condolences to their families and loved ones. Every Palestinian life lost is a tragic reminder of the international community’s failure to hold Israel accountable for its actions in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Free Palestine Melbourne calls on the Australian Government to move beyond expressions of concern and take immediate, meaningful action. Australia must impose targeted sanctions on the Israeli Government for its continued violations of international law, and expel the Israeli Ambassador until Israel complies with its obligations under international law and ends its policies of occupation, settlement expansion, and violence against Palestinians.

The current Israeli Government, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, has repeatedly used periods of heightened violence to further expand illegal settlements and embolden extremist settler groups. There are serious concerns that the current escalation will once again be exploited to accelerate settlement expansion and strengthen political support among the far-right ahead of future elections. Such actions would deepen the occupation and further undermine any prospect for a just and lasting peace.

The world cannot continue to reward impunity. We call on all Australians, civil society organisations, unions, faith groups, and elected representatives to stand for justice, demand accountability, and support concrete measures to end Israel’s violations of international law.
