The tragic reality

Perhaps PM Anthony Albanese recognises something that Penny Wong does not (Wong has Albo cornered and hopeless over Israel – Andrew Bolt, 8/4).

Israel undertaking a unilateral ceasefire without the release of hostages would embolden Hamas (and all the other Iran-backed terrorist groups) as well as prolong the suffering of the civilians of Gaza.

Two weeks ago it was reported Israel agreed to a US proposal on a prisoner-hostage exchange that would release around 700 Palestinian prisoners, among them 100 serving life sentences for killing Israelis, in exchange for the release of 40 Israeli hostages, but Hamas rejected this.

So, Israel has no choice but to help the terrorists achieve their goal of holy martyrdom.
