Students’ actions bring shame on Sydney Uni
There seems to be something weird happening at Sydney University (“Students in vote for Hamas”, ST, 11/8) .
Students supporting Hamas and voting for the destruction of Israel is endorsing genocide.
Israel is a pluralistic democratic society, not an apartheid state, where Arabs, Druze, and Jews have equal rights.
Gays and transgender individuals can also live free of persecution in Israel, unlike in the surrounding Muslim countries.
This situation raises the question of whether the warped and radical perspective among students is a result of the teachings by some academics or infiltration by activists from the extreme left or Islamist groups.
Regardless of the cause, it is now apparent that the motions passed by the students have brought international shame to what was once a highly respected institution of higher learning.

While you’re at it, may as well start burning books
Following the vote by a group of Sydney University students to recognise and support Hamas, I believe those Hamas acolytes should now vote to make it mandatory for any Jews, including those on the Sydney University campus, to identify themselves by wearing a yellow Star of David in a prominent position on their clothing (“Sydney Uni not safe for the Jews”, ST, 11/8).
Oh, and while we are waiting for the above, let’s start burning any books written by Jews.
